While this isn’t an album of new songs, it’s gotta be Bill Callahan’s best release in a decade. A live tape recorded at Chicago’s Thalia Hall with a crack band (featuring longtime guitarist Matt Kinsey, Jim White on drums, and Dustin Laurenzi on sax), he extends out tracks from his recent catalogue, drawing out the grooves, with Kinsey and Laurenzi on either side of the stage exploring and melding solos.
