Alzheimer Blanks - More Is More CD
Alzheimer Blanks follow up their certified ‘Best of 2025’ self titled cassette with another top assemblage of non-genre aligned, psychedelic electronic works on ‘More Is More’. The duo of Richard Costa and Nick Senger (whose collective resume includes Brando’s Island, The Zingers and Castings) weave together a weird and mesmerising tapestry of found sound, tape and synthesizer tom foolery.
Source materials are subject to AB’s own internal logic, apparently free from the rigidity of the midi-clock, but my ear/mind says it’s not random, there’s some advanced sense of rhythm and timing going on here. You know the way Aaron Dilloway’s 8-track tape cartridge compositions sometimes feel a bit like a J Dilla beat? AB’s are kinda like that. The broad, unaligned scope of things I hear on ‘More Is More’ includes the no-rules tape/synth works of Robert Turman, Severed Heads and Carl Stone obtusely colliding styles the masses would associate with music where samplers and other desktop electronic boxes are at the centre of the production. Most of this album continues and improves upon the path of their debut, but expands into sprawling new territory on the 26min long ‘Cosmic O’Brien’. Wowie! – Nic
