The Kinks were definitely a group who’s greatest hits I over-listened to as an early teen. Every time I hear Waterloo Sunset Or Sunny Afternoon I cringe at the thought of 14 y/o me... (or even current me, not much has really changed).
But weirdly enough I don’t think I can remember ever hearing an entire album. Listening to Lola Versus Powerman, I couldn’t help but realised I’d totally glazed over the group’s socio-political critiques (shoulda remembered this after reading a few copies of Life Stinks I Love The Kinks). The Kinks as proto-Clash?
