Where I normally groan thinking about my favourite artists from my teen years making a “solo act” album, missing the mark, or not living up to their classic albums, Kim Gordon’s latest solo LP bucks this trend!

The Collective nods back at her past while looking staunchly into the future. Gordon delivers her cool half spoken west-coast drawl over the most cracked and gnarled beats that evoke both the No Wave and noise rock of her previous outfit and contemporary trap production. But rather than cashing in on a trendy form of youth culture, Gordon brings the forms into her own.
