With their 2019 LP, The Pheromoans tease out and try to digest the everyday mundanities of the world in the wake of the Brexit/Trump votes of 2016. This isn’t the kind of album that comes out with some sort of overt political ideology, but slowly and casually seeps through songs about internet trolls or the funeral of a Roman uncle residing in Spain.
All this delivered with a conversational tone that is somehow distant and immediate at the same time over minimal synth and guitar shards while driven along by entwined live and programmed drums.
An album that recalls a Rowland S. Howard brand of post-punk (Fogel 13 could be a Pop Crimes outtake), hints of Total Control’s New Wave electronics forays, the warped pop-sensibilities of Greta Now, Exek before the dub production, or if Itchy Bugger was produced by the Pet Shop Boys! -Mitch (Repressed Records)
