Where to place Oïmiakon’s considered but considerately busted take on electronic music? The thumps, twinkles, crackles and drones allude to the avant-exploration tradition of Groupe de Recherches Musicales, early homemade Industrial delights, zoned out basement benders, and as the presser puts it, “the hidden Warp catalogue”.
‘Comptoir Des Vanités’ feels free from the many forms of Electronic & Industrial Music Baggage and across these 10 pieces/tracks (neither seems the correct term) the electricity does the talking. Rhythm and structure are alluded to, but would kill the vibe at chill-out sunday sesh.
A record I am thoroughly enjoying, and the type of bold and illogical decision making I’d expect from the Bruit Direct Disques label! - Nic
