Last Light - A Bridge Over The Lagoon LP

Last Light, the duo of Dean Brown (aka Little Skull) and Ben Spiers deal in ecstatic free music. Lovely and listenable, but with a ragged lived-in-ness that sets it apart from some bougie new New Age lifestyle accessory.

The dynamic feels in-line with the post-Xpressway Records (or more appropriately post-Corpus Hermeticum) Aotearoa/NZ beautiful blown out textural tradition. The assortment of instruments come together in a series of duo-like responses, I’d call them “pieces” even.

Sometimes these pieces lean towards a junkshop Michael Ranta, other times I’m reminded of cool guys named Anthony (Milton and Guerra in particular). Really worthwhile and rewarding stuff! - Nic
