L.$.D Fundraiser - LSD Fundraiser Plays Otepoti Exotica & Other Selections CS

Over the last couple of years L$D Fundraiser has found a special place in my heart. It quenches my thirst for non-institutionally aligned, odd-ball tape music. An appetite that developed out of discovering things like Robert Turman, Aaron Dilloway, Blood Stereo, Storm Bugs, and more locally stepping into the universe of Castings (and related projects like Enak, Prehistoric Fkn’ Moron etc).

Side A’s collection of rhythmic tape loops weave hardhat jobsite clang and dusty found sound exotica as the Death Industrial / Power Electronic pastiche cover would suggest. It leans into disorientating psychedelia over pure harsh aggression.

Side B, ‘Outside Artist! You’ve Been Inside All Day’ is maybe the most interesting evocation of Klaus Dinger’s motorik minimalism since Blues Control. I dunno, there’s a particular Aotearoa understatedness that feels in the spirit of the Axemen while not sounding like them at all. - Nic
