Gutvoid - Breathing Obelisk LP

On ‘Breathing Obelisk’ Canada’s Gutvoid occupy an interesting space in Death Metal. You could very much situation them in the forward looking, non-knuckle dragging, science fiction quarters with their dizzying, obtuse songwriting but the sound of this record is far from cosmic.

Gutvoid have stripped away the atmosphere for a crude, razor sharp (excuse me for sounding like Hans Moleman in a backwards baseball cap) “old skool” sound. The nakedness makes these four epic tracks sound even more obtuse, gripping and terrifying. Highly memorable without being overly bombastic or gimmicky. - Nic
