The bombastic and unhinged energy of VOID captured the hearts and minds of the Hardcore curious in the 21st century. Their dominance (remember mysterious guy mania, yowza) overshadowed the great band on the other side of their iconic 1982 split LP, The Faith.
In all fairness, there’s a more distinct identity on 1983s ‘Subject To Change’ EP. It’s harDCore moving towards a more melodic sound, while avoiding some of the Dischord proto-emo sadboi sounds I personally have a difficult relationship with.
Don’t get me wrong though, love me some earnest male emotion in core, but this fits closer to early Husker Du, Moving Targets and Canada’s The Nils but with an anger and darkness underneath their flannel shirt a la The Fix or Necros. Ok, and the 1981 demo on side B is sick too! - Nic
