A decade of Eastlink? Where did the time go???
Perhaps a bit overshadowed by the release of Total Control’s second LP the same year (with Al and Zephyr being in both bands, as well as members of Repairs, TOL, Deaf Wish, Exek, etc), Eastlink’s self titled is a more unruly beast. Bludgeoning post-punk leaning songs meet extended instrumental passages that ominously loom across the album, building and threatening to spill over the edges. All strewn with an irreverent humour (a laugh at the system?), skewering the political class in a way that no-one else seems to be doing these days (ie. walking the border of political satire and earnestness without getting pearl clutching).
I can’t seem to really find the words as to why this album hits so hard and still holds up so incredibly well… But fans of Total Control and RMFC pay attention.
