crys cole - Other Meetings LP

It feels unfair to label crys cole’s latest work a “lockdown album” (which at this point in time, would understandably garner an eye roll) even if that’s the context within which it was created, but it seems to move beyond the cliches of that era/genre/trope. 

Two quiet sides, each split into four sections that interweave gently throbbing synths, gurgling close mic’d and processed domestic sounds, dreamlike field recordings, and hints of the outside world from behind panes of glass. Where the notion of the lockdown album suggests the claustrophobia of being stuck inside, Other Meetings conjures the surreal nature of an altered world or the meditative time spent alone.
