April Magazine’s releases had evaded our grasp for a couple of years with blink and you’ll miss it pressings and tape runs. But their latest on Digital Regress has finally bucked that trend.
A member of the Bay Area pop underground set that includes groups like Cindy and Reds, Pinks, and Purples, this latest AM release takes the jangling guitars at the basis of these songs and runs them through sheets of reverb, echo, and tape manipulation. What is left is a set of haunting outlines of songs, as though Angelo Badalementi produced the third Velvet Underground album and it was subsequently mixed by Terry Riley. -Mitch
