Neil Young veers from the middle of the road, bypasses the ditch, and winds up in the Dead C.
Has he ever heard of the infamous free rock trio? Who knows, but Arc opens up the possibility that he has. A musique concrete stitch of all the furthest out moments of abstract rocking and earsplitting feedback from live arena shows on the 1990-91 run. Like catching Crazy Horse spooked mid-storm, there’s an unpredictable nature to these recordings, all rumbling bass, shattering guitars, and scattered drums with the occasional ghostly vocal drift of the Like A Hurricane or Love and Only Love refrain.
For fans of Sonic Youth, Bardo Pond, Orcutt & Corsano, Les Rallizes Denudes, Emily Robb.
Dunno what’s been done to the remaster on this for the first LP reissue of it, but sounds even better than what I remember it sounding!
