From Boomkat...
Good Morning Tapes’ earliest recruit returns to their fold with a new selection of waking dream-like pearls drifting between ASMR whispers, fragments of R&B, scouse poetry, seraphic chorales and field recordings - plus so much more - on a shifting bed of ambient pads and vapours.
The DJ responsible for GMT01 & GMT23, Misha Hollenbach is also regarded as half of P.A.M, a fashion, art, and design label and publisher co-founded with his wife and creative partner, Shauna Toohey. Active since the early ‘90s, Hollenbach has key links to Cav Empt’s SKATETHING and made a documentary for RVNG Intl. in 2014.
His mixtape mirrors this diverse practice with a skilfully and tactfully stitched selection of sawn-off sounds that play out like a psychedelic, fractal carousel on the back of heavy eyelids with a richly sensual but, crucially, not anodyne, effect and approach. He’s unafraid to pique the senses with a fine balance of sounds and atmospheric pressures in a way that feels like broken sleep, when the mind can’t fully rest and is suspended between states. We can hear fragments of Roy Claire Potter, Éliane Radigue, Asa-Chang & Junray, and Sonny Blount all diffused and appearing across the stereo stage like characters in a dream. Great stuff.
