It seems fitting that in the couple of weeks before the end of the year, Bill Orcutt releases an album that ought to be on a bunch of best of 2024 lists but is probably too late to meet the deadline.
Equally fitting for this festive season, is the base of choral music that Orcutt shreds over the top of. To my memory this is the first guitar-led solo Orcutt LP that isn’t just Orcutt’s guitar, but this amorphous choir seems to marry his process-based electronics into the set. If this is difficult to imagine, try to remember that intro to Mr. Bean’s Xmas special where the spotlight opens up and he falls straight onto the cobbled pavement, but with some avant-rockin’ over the top! Top shelf stuff!
