Originally released in 1986, Singing Dust’s self-titled album is a sprawling document of Queensland spiritual jazz fusion. Each track entirely its own, from full band and choir compositions, to solo piano and vocal meditations. Yet where “fusion” typically signals some sort of shonky and cheesy jazz rock crossover, Singing Dust seems to draw a link between spiritual jazz of Alice Coltrane and English folk of John Martyn via some Keith Jarrett piano work—an unexpected but enjoyable combo!
