A vital character in the M Squared scene, the late Patrick Gibson played in the Systematics, Ya Ya Choral, Height/Dismay and produced/recorded a bunch of adjacent records. This killer new cassette comp from Efficient Space collects a range of Gibson’s solo output from 1981-1992.
A testament to the breadth of his oeuvre, the tape veers from humorous Brion Gysin-esque sound poetry (the endlessly repeating word ‘catatonic’ seems to morph into the phrase ‘as a tonic’ before your ears, through to wonky After Science Eno era tracks, to something that would sit cleanly among the DIY pop output of Dark Entries, to other recordings that I can’t think of a better way of describing than the way EfficientSpace does as “kitchen sink ambient.”
