Tangled Shoelaces - Turn My Dial LP

Upon hearing 'The Biggest Movie Ever Made' in the lead up to the release of this retrospective I thought this compilation's purpose would be unearthing another nice slice of jangle pop history, something that’d sit well alongside The Cannanes, The Bats or Sneaky Feelings. But there’s a greater story at play here...

While some records aim to document a time/place this record maps out a hallucinatory coming-of-age story. The sequencing/selection of tracks creates the feeling of a non-chronologically ordered family photo album.

There's the juxtaposition of Queensland state primary school recordings with Sydney post-punk production powerhouse M-Squared, and a balance of endearing nativity and sophistication in their songwriting.

'Australia's youngest composing and recording band' is the story here but honestly that feels like a side-note after a handful of listens. I know there's a lot more to unlock here, and I can't wait to see what else is revealed.
