Exek’s most recent LP Some Beautiful Species Left has got a flogging on the shop turntable since 2019, so it’s nice of Castle Face to reissue their out of print first LP so that we don’t drive everyone mad with the 517th play of SBSL.
Dubby post punk that’s unafraid to flick the trigger on the old spring reverb, tracks waver and ripple with the occasional snare or vocal skipping across the surface. Something about this one is a little less abrasive than the other Exek albums I’ve listened to, more subdued and melancholic yet just as ambitious (see: the 15 min epic Baby Giant Squid).
