Pretty incredible that a band can keep up this kind of output in the 2020s. With their second studio album in roughly twelve months (except this one was taped prior to last year’s Good Thing They Ripped Up The Carpet), Exek’s Advertise Here takes up a lot of what we’ve come to know and love about the group—motorik rhythms, floating synth lines, liberal spring reverb use, and Albert Wolski’s rambling musings.
But Advertise Here also shifts to something more melodic. Wolski seems to sing more than ramble, there are amoebic Eno-esque synths, bass lines that walk around the neck and a guitar solo that slices its way through an entire track. An album that seems to escape the turntable and worms itself into you brain, floating phrases through your mind when you least expect it.
