We've had our ups and downs but it's safe to say I’m a fan of The Fall. Still, I can't say I wasn't a little sceptical about this one.
Even though it's a prime-period document, what on Earth could it reveal about a band I've already spent so much time listening, reading and thinking about?
Well, a fair bit actually. This neutral, but not sterile, live recording has got my mind cogs spinning, considering new angles as to why The Fall are one in a million.
This recording demonstrates the fun contradiction of this self-sabotaging group performing here with a real focus and regiment.
An anti-art school band that also shuns rock orthodoxy, links working class existence with deeply imaginative literary traditions, all while sounding like one of Northern England's top rockabilly bands!
