Cooper Bowman - Passim (Unfinished Studies In Seasons) CS

Another archival solo release by me treading dusty ambient, minimal and modern classical ground. This was my first (and, to be fair, one of the only) exercises in performing longform pieces that I have attempted. Originally Passim was conceived for an unrealised project by a friend in Melbourne involving film projections and audio installations. I decided to make each piece 24 minutes in length as a nod to the FPS of film and for each one to attempt to evoke the feelings of a season. The Winter piece was composed, but I lost the sampler card with it’s elements and the only tapes of its recording. Summer was never begun. 



Autumn and Spring were recorded while I briefly lived in Nipaluna/Tasmania, early 2018, before I moved back to Newcastle and, as a result, falls into the period where I was still recording everything live to tape with no overdubs. So I think they hold some merit for that, if nothing else. How I was patient with them for this length and didn’t screw anything up is a mystery to me…



In releasing this and Seabreeze Salute last year, I have cleared out two projects I’d been uncomfortably sitting with for awhile. Hopefully this allows the space to try out some new, untethered approaches to working solo in the near-future.
