“What Do We Do While We Wait” is the third record from Gadigal/Sydney based bedroom rocker Nick Griffith. The eclectic 10 track album explores vast sonic frontiers and is yet another classic departure from previous releases.

This new installment sees Griffith moving beyond the sun-drenched jangle pop of his sophomore album “Something I Once Heard” and exploring the deeper caverns of folk, psychedelic and new wave. Lyrically too, the album takes on a more melancholic tone with themes of ennui, isolation and fear.

Self-recorded and produced across different share house bedrooms Nick’s process grew directly out of his limitations. With no space to record a drum kit in an inner city terrace, he began chopping and rearranging drum samples from demos and old recordings to build the foundations of the songs. 808s were played back through guitar amps to add character and grit while microphones were placed outside windows and next to fridges for ambience and context.

Amongst the varied instrumentation on this album we find honky tonk pianos, forlorn cello and most importantly bombacious guitar. From the fuzzed out layer cake outro of “Lavender Works” to the lengthy stoner jams of “Turquoise” and “Devil Verse”, Griffith’s guitar playing pushes the envelope persistently.
