On the heels of their sold-out debut tape, Melbourne hardcore retro-futurists Ill Globo return with the release of 7" EP 'Check The Odds' through Aarght Records.
In 18 months of activity, Ill Globo (derived from Italian- Australian newspaper, 'Il Globo', as a nod to the band's migrant roots) have refined their unique approach through relentlessly performing, sharing bills with diverse and notable acts including Ausmuteants, Haram, Ubik, Pious Faults, Terry and Bitumen.
Recorded by Billy Gardner of The Living Eyes, with Eddy Current Suppression Ring's Mikey Young pulling double duty on mixing and mastering, this collection of tracks is presented with a powerful punk punch that honours the sound of Aarght alumni. However, Ill Globo diverges from this with a frenetic attack that is reminiscent of classic Midwest Hardcore, albeit with a couple of modern twists —e.g. macho aggression out, buzzing synth bass in. Over the course of eight rapid-fire cuts in ten hook-filled minutes, the band takes these reference-points and establishes a sound that is truly their own. Relentless, forward-looking hardcore for now.
